New Classic Center Arena breaks ground in Athens

by The 100 Companies

Downtown Athens is getting a new multi-use $130 million conference center. The Classic Center recently broke ground with a scheduled opening of 2023.

The LEED-certified arena will have 5,500 permanent seats with seating capacity of 8,500. The Georgia Music Hall will open here with a collection of music memorabilia, and the arena will also be home to the UGA Ice Dawgs, an intercollegiate hockey team.

The Classic Center will function as a performing arts venue and will host concerts, sporting tournaments, weddings, conventions, conferences and other special events. It is expected to provide an estimated $33 million in annual economic impact.
