In 2021 5.6 million shipping containers passed through the Port of Savannah. But things are about to get a whole lot busier.
The port was already planning to expand to 7.5 million shipping containers a year, but now plans to increase that volume to a whopping 9.5 million containers over the next three years. The total investment is expected to be around $3 billion, including a $200 million development at the Garden City Terminal.
Savannah is the second largest port on the East Coast, after the Port of New York and New Jersey, and the fourth largest in the country.
