Pigmental Studios, an animation studio with offices in D.C. and Los Angeles, is building a new $200 million studio in St. Marys, a town of 19,000 on the St. Marys River in South Georgia. The studio, located where the old St. Marys airport was, will include 18 sound stages.
The studio wanted to take advantage of Georgia film credits and chose St. Marys because it’s about 40 minutes from the Jacksonville airport, is close to I-95 and provides a location for water-based productions
The company, which produced “Despicable Me,” plans more animated films and features based on children’s books.
