“A Spread for the Dead: Celebrating a Life Well Lived with Food Well Loved” honors the food, rituals and stories that play important roles in Southern goodbyes.
It includes dozens of recipes from the LaGrange Junior Service League Sustainers, local chefs, caterers and celebrity chef Pat Neely, a LaGrange resident.
“We Southerners may not always know what to say at a funeral, but we know what to cook,” says author Shannon Gavin Johnson. “This book is a love letter to the cakes, casseroles and stories that help us send our loved ones off with grace, laughter and a full plate.”
“A Spread for the Dead: Celebrating a Life Well Lived with Food Well Loved,” is available for purchase at mulberrystreetcemetery.org, visitlagrange.com and at many LaGrange retailers. One hundred percent of the proceeds go to the Friends of the Historic Mulberry Street Cemetery.
