Warm weather is returning in Georgia, which also marks the return of snake season in the Peach State. Georgia is home to 46 known species of snakes, six of which are venomous, including the copperhead, cottonmouth and rattlesnake.
The Georgia Poison Center reports receiving hundreds of phone calls every year regarding snake bites, with a considerable increase in calls over the last few years.
The GPC website contains a number of tips for both preventing and treating snakebites, including washing the bite with soap and water; covering it with a clean, dry dressing; and calling the GCP number at 1-800-222-1222.
