These historic schools are still open today:

Richmond Academy, 1783: – The oldest public school and the oldest recorded public school in the South, Richmond was visited by George Washington.

Glynn Academy, 1788 – Now an AdvancED school, this school was one of the first public schools in the state.

LaGrange College, 1831 – Established as a female high school, LaGrange was nearly closed during the Civil War. Four female teachers garnered support, keeping the school open.

Saint Vincent’s Academy, 1845 – From the early days, Saint Vincent’s Academy focused on teaching young, bright women how to think for themselves in the new world.
