In 2022, Georgia had five Level 1 trauma centers. But when Atlanta Medical Center closed last year, the state was left with four: Atlanta’s Grady Memorial Hospital, Augusta University Medical Center, Atrium Health Navicent in Macon and Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.
There could be another one added soon as the Northeast Georgia Medical Center has been preparing to become a Level 1 trauma center for the past three years. The hospital, which is now a Level 2 trauma center, is under review by the American College of Surgeons.
A Level 1 trauma center can provide total care.
