Start the new year with exercise and fresh air by going on one of the First Day Hikes in Georgia State Parks, part of a nationwide state park program designed to get people outside.
You can catch the sunrise at Black Rock Mountain State Park followed by coffee and hot chocolate by a campfire; hike a 4.1-mile loop over Blood Mountain at Vogel State Park, take a leisurely 3-mile hike at Tallulah Gorge State Park or hike up Panola Mountain.
Hikes are led by rangers and naturalists. Pre-registration is required for some hikes and parking at the state parks is $5.
