Looking back at my past achievements, I’m extremely proud that I summited Grand Teton in Wyoming’s Rocky Mountains.
As part of a “testosterone weekend,” a group of us set the date in early August 2007 to climb the highest peak in the Teton Range. As the oldest at age 50, I trained by hiking up Stone Mountain repeatedly, running The Peachtree Road Race twice and cutting out cigars.
I set my goal, scaled up the treacherous ascent and ultimately conquered its 13,775-foot summit. Content, I grabbed my flask – engraved with “Ain’t Life Grand” – and soaked in this massive personal accomplishment.
