It was my girlfriend’s birthday and she wanted to go someplace she’d never been. I said, “How about somewhere in the mountains?,” knowing she was more a mountain gal than a beach bunny.

We went to Blairsville in North Georgia where we enjoyed views from Brasstown Bald, the highest point in Georgia, scouted out great Mexican food, boiled peanuts and moonshine, hiked in Vogel State Park, played with donkeys and goats and ended one day by a fire pit at our cottage by Butternut Creek.

We celebrated her birthday with dinner at Brasstown Valley Resort.
