by The 100 Companies

Mashama Bailey, executive chef and partner in The Grey in Savannah won the coveted James Beard Award for Outstanding Chef at the recent awards dinner held in Chicago.

She and her partner Johno Morisano opened The Grey in a once-segregated 1938 art deco Greyhound Bus Terminal in Savannah in 2014. Mashama describes the food at the restaurant as “Port City Southern,” which is southern ingredients with European influences.

Mashama and Johno are the authors of the book “Black, White and The Grey.”

This is the second James Beard Award for Mashama, who took home the award or Best Chef: Southeast in 2019.
