Grant will help fund former airport’s transformation to an industrial park

by The 100 Companies

There has been no air traffic at the St. Marys Airport Georgia since 2017. The airport was first closed temporarily after September 11, 2001 due to concerns about possible terrorist attacks, as it is just one mile away from the Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay.

The airport reopened in December 2001, but then was permanently closed in 2017 over security concerns with the city maintaining ownership.

With some funding from OneGeorgia Authority, a state agency, Camden County Joint Development Authority and other investors, the 220-acre site will be developed as an industrial park. Two tenants plan to move in by June 2023.
